The refurbishment of 10 Class Locos No. 18 is well underway thanks to support from our local, community and the NSW Government.
The refurbishment of No.18 has received support through the Transport Heritage NSW Grants Program, which was awarded to 10 Class Locos in both 2022 and 2023. This has provided $30,000 to assist with works on the locomotive’s springs, ashpan, axle box, and a boiler inspection and testing for the project so far.
10 Class Locos No.10 and No.18 were originally built and operated by South Maitland Railways, the largest and busiest private railway in Australia. With a strong history in the Maitland region, and as the two remaining class members alongside 3801, it is clear to see why these locomotives are listed as significant items by the National Trust of Australia.
Thank you to Transport Heritage NSW for their ongoing support in the refurbishment project and we look forward to seeing No.18 back in motion.
