We have an exciting opportunity for corporations, businesses, train enthusiasts and members of the general community to be involved in the refurbishment of 10 Class Steam Locomotive Number 18.
As a unique, state heritage listed asset that is being returned to full operational mode, you can be on the ground floor to bring this plan to life. Once fully operational, this Locomotive will be made available to the community through featuring at events, access for educational tours and for hiring by accredited rail operators for tourist activities. These activities would provide a source of revenue for the ongoing preservation and promotion of the steam locomotives.

Objectives of 10 Class Locomotives Limited
- To preserve, refurbish, and promote Heritage Steam Locomotives
- To provide the 10 Class Locomotives for community use and enjoyment
- To increase awareness and education of the important historical and cultural significance of 10 Class Locomotives and historical railways

Current Collection
- The Company manages two state heritage listed 10 Class Locomotives
- Number 10 built in 1911
- Number 18 built in 1915
Uniqueness of Number 10 and 18 Locomotives
- The locomotives were specifically designed, constructed, and purchased from the most famous locomotive construction company in the world at that time, Beyer Peacock, Gorton foundry, Manchester, England.
- Their design is technologically significant and there are no other locomotives of this design in the world.
- Members of this Class of locomotive were the last steam locomotives in commercial use in Australia.
- The locomotives were designed specially to work the South Maitland Railway (SMR) line and did so commercially for 71 years. As a fully intact Class of locomotives this was a longevity unequalled in Australia.
- Locomotives No.10 and No.18 are still surviving today and are the only locomotives operational.
- The locomotives are still located in their historical birthplace at East Greta Junction, Telarah.
- The locomotives are the only steam locomotives protected by the National Trust of Australia with State Heritage Office.
The locomotives are intrinsically linked to the transport of coal and the history and evolution of Maitland.
